Frequently Asked Questions
For our Beginner course, no prerequisites are required.
For Intermediate courses and advanced courses hands-on experience with Power BI is a must. Intermediate and advanced students will already be familiar with data loading, measures, DAX and some Power Query.
It is not possible to teach basic process and workflows in more advanced courses and it would be unfair on other students.
We recommend starting with our Power BI Beginner course if you're new to business intelligence tools. If you have experience with Excel pivot tables and basic data analysis, you should still seriously consider the beginner course. While familiarity with data concepts will be helpful much of the content is specific to Power BI interfaces and processes. These are assumed knowledge for the later courses.
Power BI training difficulty varies depending on your background and the course level. Our Beginner course is designed for complete newcomers and requires no prior experience. Intermediate and Advanced courses build upon foundational knowledge. Our expert instructors break down complex concepts into manageable steps, ensuring all students can follow along regardless of their starting point. As a tool, Power BI is no more complicated to learn than Excel.
Absolutely! Our curriculum is designed and based on real-world business scenarios and updated regularly to reflect current industry practices. We use realistic datasets and focus on practical applications you'll encounter in your role. Our instructors bring years of business intelligence experience and ensure the training is relevant and practical.
We maintain small class sizes with a maximum of 10 students per session to ensure personalised attention. Our average class size is 6-8 students, allowing for plenty of interaction with the instructor and opportunities for individual questions and guidance.
You will need a reliable Windows laptop with the latest or at least a very recent version of Power BI Desktop installed (it's free from Microsoft). A computer mouse and power supply. We can't stop a class if a student's laptop fails. Students are not obliged to bring a computer but we state in our terms and conditions that those attending without a computer recognize the learning experience is diminished without the benefit of hands-on experience during the class. If you are attending a remote class you should also have Power BI installed. A second screen would be of benefit too.
While we specialise in face-to-face training, we do offer remote sessions for students who cannot attend in person. Remote training includes live virtual instruction with screen sharing, breakout rooms for hands-on practice, and the same high-quality materials. However, we do encourage face-to-face attendance for the best learning experience.
If you think you might have made the wrong choice, no problems! Just tell your teacher by no later than the morning break and we will be happy to book you in for a later course that is better suited. We do not provide refunds but will galdly get you into the right course for your skill level. The replacement course must be completed with 90 days of the original class date.
We provide a PDF of the course presentation, all the Power BI (pbix) files and data sets used in the course for you to take and use for your own training after the course.
There is a large and still growing demand for Power BI developers in the industry and government. Power BI skills open doors to various roles including Data Analyst, Business Intelligence Analyst, Report Developer, Data Visualisation Specialist, Business Analyst, and Power BI Developer. Many existing professionals also use Power BI skills to advance in their current roles by becoming their organisation's go-to person for data insights and reporting.
We recommend pursuing Microsoft's official Power BI certifications, particularly the Microsoft Certified: Data Analyst Associate (PL-300 exam). This globally recognised certification validates your Power BI skills. We are preparing course material for people aiming to achieve this important certification - watch for announcements.
